DESCRIPTION: John Stokell, New York, New York, standing astronomical regulator, in a Gothic style mahogany and mahogany veneer case, the base with figured lancet arch veneer panels, the arch design carried through the glazed door and bonnet, case back also with crotch mahogany veneer and silvered beat scale, silvered astronomical dial signed "JOHN STOKELL NEW YORK", with blued steel hands, massive 8 days, time only, weight driven movement, all mobiles with adjustable end pieces dead beat escapement, Harrisons maintaining power, and with removable dust shields, crutch with fine beat adjustment at top, with a mercury single jar pendulum with fine adjustment weight at bottom, c1855
CONDITION: Case refinished, and with minor veneer losses, some shrinkage cracks and checking, panel below door modified to allow access to bottom of the pendulum and fine regulating weight, back with holes from bolts used to secure case to wall, finials may be replacements, dial very good, probably resilvered, top of dial with minor bend, hands good with a few minor spots of oxide and minor bends, movement very good, pendulum very good, Ht 94 1/2", a very desirable American regulator. Mercury is included but not shown in photograph. Mercury will require hand delivery if bought in absentia.
